Authors Note Dear Visitors, Cape Verde has a rich oral tradition, so producing a website based on Cape Verdean oral histories can reveal many important aspects of the archipelago's past and of its culture. My parents, grandparents, and extended family have always shared their stories about immigration and of their lives in Cape Verde with me. It was their experiences and my visits to Cape Verde that helped foster the development of this website. Despite the assimilating aspects of immigration, Cape Verdeans often maintain their identities abroad. The stories that have been told here can translate themselves into the lives of many Cape Verdean immigrants and their descendants living around the world. This demonstrates the strength of our culture and emphasises the need to share it with others. I'd like to thank the contributors for sharing information with me. I hope that this site has been informative to every visitor. Thank you for your interest! Sincerely, Patricia J. Rodrigues Please send comments to p.rodrigues.1@alumni.nyu.edu |
