Schooner Ernestina is approaching New
Bedford harbor entrance now with Elderhostelers
aboard nearing the end of a six-day program that
will finish on Saturday morning, June 3rd at 8am. You can see the track (orange line) of
the route of the ship from several days ago and
the crossing of Buzzards Bay from the Vineyard
yesterday (blue line)
After a nice
anchor watch last night in Padanarum Harbor in
South Dartmouth, the crew arose to a pleasant
calm morning and motored across the mouth of
Clarks Cove, now approaches Bulters Flats and
will soon dock at Tonnessen Park in the Harbor.
The Elderhosters
plan a trip ashore for a tour of the New Bedford
Whaling Museum on Johnny Cake Hill and then a
visit to Schooner Ernestina's offices just down
the street at 89 North Water Street. Look for a
little more swagger in their step as they return
to Herman Melville's port of choice. It won't be
"The Sword-fish" or "The Crossed
Harpoons" nor "The Spouter Inn"
for them but rather, maybe
"Candleworks" or
"Freestones."
