Schooner Ernestina lays at anchor in the
Hudson River this morning at the base of the
magnificent Palisades just north of the George
Washington Bridge. Spuyten Duyvil (Dutch for
'Spitting Devil') is the mouth of the Harlem
River as it forms the upper end of Manhattan
Island of New York City. The current 'spits' out
into the Hudson on an incoming tide. For scale,
the river is 3/4 mile across here. The weather has changed. A front has now
pushed south to set up a light northly wind and
moisture comes out of the air as rain and fog. A
welcome relief!
The ship will be underway
traveling further up the up the Hudson with the
Boy Scouts after a walk through Sailing School
vessel orientation and drills.
