The Patriots Trail Girl Scouts sailed
across the Gulf of Maine leaving Gloucester
Harbor midday on Sunday to arrive in Yarmouth by
midday Tuesday sailing around the clock. Winds
went fair and diminished while the sea subsided. You can see from our track a northerly
and then southerly jog just after leaving Cape
Ann that took us up through midnight Sunday
night. The winds had turned E'ly with seas still
up to 7' in the wake of the storm Saturday night.
By midnight, however, the wind and seas dropped
significantly and diminished. The main engine was
engaged as the sails were struck down to the fore
and jumbo. We motor sailed on with 171 miles to
go across the Gulf.
Monday evening the fog rolled
in with NE wind at Force 3 and subsiding. Seas
flattened. We motored on through the night with a
careful watch in the bow and radar watch set.
This is 'Down East' weather.
Wind: E'ly Force 3 going NE'ly
and subsiding
