The Schooner Ernestina is alongside the
Picton Castle at Tall Ships Quay on the Halifax
waterfront. Over 500
visitors and friends of the ship came aboard
during our afternoon "open ship". Among
them (pictured at right) were sea cadets from
Bartlett's home town of Brigus, Newfoundland, and
Ted and Sharon Kearsey relative of Ansel Snow of
Digby Nova Scotia. We were also pleased to have
had on board on our passage from Yarmouth two
grandchildren of Commander Alexander Forbes, Joe
Frothingham of Dartmouth, MA and Martha Bryan of
Letete, New Brunswick.
Halifax treated the crew well
to an "Afterguard Dinner" held up at
the Citadel, which was a wonderful place to watch
the spectacular fireworks. Ernestina had a prime
viewing location, berthed with the tall ships
near the fireworks barge.
We would like to thank Roland
Martin (liaison) and Peter Brown for their great
assistance for our stay in Halifax. What a great
event! Halifax is certainly a friendly port for
visiting ships like ours.... people have a great
sense of our maritime heritage.
