We left Onset bound for New Bedford after
boarding 39 participants from Wareham High
School. On the way out the channel guest
sailor, Dylan Becker, led the group in a chantey
sing preparing them for raising sail once on our
way in Hog Island Channel. We were able to
sail for a while until the wind came around to
the SW and then we motorsailed to make it to the
dock at a reasonable time. The
temperature warmed up into the low to mid-sixties
and if one stayed on the sunny side, it felt
quite balmy. All the
students were eager to learn and the day flew by
with students handling sail, observing the
plankton in Buzzards Bay, comparing the
historical and current life on board, and looking
at traditional tools and current technology on
board the vessel.
We sailed through the Hurricane
Gate under the four lowers giving our traditional
"welcome home to New Bedford"
cheer. A great trip and a great fall day to
be out on the water.
