Today
was yet another cold, windy day. Great for
sailing!! The oceanography class of Fairhaven
High school joined us for a four hour sail.
The class, which has been studying the ecology of
the local area, had a perfect opportunity to view
their surroundings from the decks of the
Ernestina including the inner harbor of New
Bedford, shores of Fairhaven, the water treatment
facility, and the expanse of Buzzards Bay.
After raising the Fore and Jumbo, participants
turned their attention to the learning stations:
navigation, stearing at the helm, plankton,
health of our local estuaries and the monitoring
of our waters. After lunch all participants
had the opportunity to climb out over the waves
on the bowsprit or create braclets of fancy knot
work to take home. Spirits were high even
with the unseasonably cold weather as we made
fast the dock lines backat the State Pier. Captain:
