We
departed Tonnessen Park at New Bedford State Pier
at 0920 this morning after boarding 10 members
for an all day member transit from New Bedford to
Boston. After setting the fore and jumbo outside
New Bedford's hurricane barrier we settled into a
3 hour watch rotation for our motorsail through
the canal and up the South Shore in Cape Cod
Bay. Swells came in from the NE as we
passed Duxbury Bay, giving us a gentle but not
uncomfortable rolling motion. Winds
remained light and we continued on past Minot's
ledge, to the mouth of Nantasket Roads.
Here, with the wind filling in from the ESE we
were able to strike the "D" (diesel
main engine) sail and broad reach through the
Narrows, much to the relief of all the crew and
passengers who enjoyed the quiet during the last
hour of true daylight. We struck sail in
President Roads, and motored into Fan Pier at
2110 hours. Two delicious meals were served by
Monika Bang-Campbell during the day, and musical
entertainment both above and below decks was
provided by our visiting CLEARWATER crew member
Devin Dascher. The GPS logged 77.7 nautical
miles.
The chart at right shows the last stretch of
the voyage and dockage at Fan Pier at the Joseph
Moakley Federal Court House Building on the
Boston Waterfront.
