What
better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than to go
for a 3 hour sail in Boston Harbor and out to the
Harbor Islands with a group of old friends?
Not "old" in the sense of age, the
average age was 14 - 17 year olds, but old in the
sense that they had all shared a similiar
experience. The common bond was fond
memories of summers past spent sailing on the
Ernestina. For the past three years the New
England Aquarium has offered a marine science
oriented summer camp program and have brought
their students sailing on the Ernestina for a 4
or 5 day trip. Today's sail allowed the students
from past New England Aquarium trips to come back
to the Ernestina and see friends they had shared
a week at sea with and the opportunity to meet
students from the other aquarium trips. It
was great to see the pictures people brought and
to hear the memorable stories of visiting the
Isle of Shoals, swim calls and jumping off the
bowsprit, sightings of dolphins and mola molas,
and of course the unforgettable puke stories from
last years trip between Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
and Portland, Maine. Although today's sail wasn't
quite as long as their previous trips friendships
were renewed and new memories were made as people
climbed aloft, sat out on the bowsprit, and
steered the vessel through Boston Harbor. All in
all, not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Captain:
