Middleboro
High School was represented today by an excellent
group of honor students who had another near
perfect day of sailing and weather.
Biology was the theme but we covered History,
Navigation, Simple Machines and Bow/Helm to make
the most of our unique teaching tool: the
boat. The quality of our local waters was
tested with electronic probes and TI datamate as
well as our old standbys: the refractometer,
hydrometer and thermometer. A plankton tow
and touch tank provided biological samples to
examine both with and without the
microscope. Sailing on the water provides a
perfect time to study the health and features of
the local environment and marine life. A
moment of silence in the middle of the day gave
us all an opportunity to absorb the peace and
serenity around us...an opportunity that is all
too rare in our busy shore lives. Captain:
