Youth Four-day
Youth Sail: 4th Day Here, another day aboard the Schooner
Ernestina, life is calm and pleasant, for the
moment.
The day began with a beautiful
sunrise over Buzzards Bay. All hands were up and
at it by 0600 with our last meal of the trip
being served at 0630. All crew members and
participants gathered around the aft cabin for a
moment of reflection and a plan for the morning.
Capt. Willi Bank explained everyone would
participating in "Field Day". All parts
of the ship would be getting a thorough cleaning
so Ernestina would be in as good shape for the
next group as members of the Youth Sail had found
it.
After all holds were "ship
shape", we gathered back aft again for
certificates and a sharing of memorable moments.
Many laughs were had by all in the recounting of
the trip - complete with belly flops off the
bowsprit and Peanut's endless jokes. The anchor
crankers got to work and got the anchor up by
0930 and into the Channel we sailed.
We arrived at the dock at 1130,
being greeted by parents and families. Tim
Charbonneau's little sister gave him a 5-minute
hug when they met and Katie DePrato's niece was
smiling away. New friends and old said goodbye
and the 2nd annual Youth Sail ended
with promises of returns and memories that would
last as long as Fred Littleton's!
