Transit from Onset to New Bedford today
with the New Bedford-based Comunity Boating
Center (CBC) aboard. Early Friday
morning we all awoke to a beautiful calm and
clear morning on the harbor. After
breakfast in the open air on deck, CBC kids and
staff pitched in alongside Ernestina crew to
clean and care for what was their home for the
night. When all the work was done we went
shore side for games and group challenges before
meeting up with arriving family and guests for
the day sail. Once underway we took one
turn through the learning stations, Navigation,
Simple Machines, Bow/Helm, Sharks and Knots,
before raising the Main, Fore, Jumbo and
Jib. Jim and Cindy Bean, shantysingers and
long standing friends and volunteers of our
organization, sang songs of the Ernestina after
as we took a moment to soak in the sun after
lunch. The afternoon was spend leaning more
of the stations on deck and climbing about the
Ernestina's rigging and bowsprit accompanied by
crew members. We arrived back at the New Bedford
docks with Summerfest under way. Not long
after saying good bye to our CBC crew, we were
open and ready for a weekend full of festivities,
receptions and open deck tours.
New Bedford and Summerfest is
cranking up for the weekend. The beautiful
weather has really brought the people out for one
of the finest festivals going!
After shifting gears quickly to
an open ship for the Summerfest visitors, we then
went on to a reception for Summerfest sponsor,
NStar for the evening.
