PKU Teen Challenge Day 4 Our
busy morning started with schooner aerobics,
otherwise known as raising the anchor, as we left
Fisher's Island and made our way to New London.
All hands were kept busy packing up personal gear
and thoroughly cleaning the ship. Spirits
were high as students looked forward to seeing
familair faces eagerly awaiting their arrival on
shore, however there was a hint of sadness that
the journey was almost over. Email
addresses were exchanged and plans for future
gatherings between people were made ensuring that
the friendships made during this voyage would not
end once we all returned to the "real"
world. The welcoming committee on the dock
cheered as we came in and held up a "Welcome
Home " banner. Tours of the ship and
introductions of fellow crewmembers were given to
parents and siblings before our new crewmembers
departed. It was sad to see them go, but
reassuring to know they had a great time and will
come sailing with us again sometime.
The Ernestina Crew now started to gear up for
New London's annual Sailfest. We met our liason
Jen Convey who was a great help, and prepared for
a private evening sail for Northeast
Utilities. At 4 p.m. we set out with the
fore and jumbo and sailed along accompanied by
the Schooner Amistad. Shown to the right
are two photos of the Amistad under sail. A
beautiful evening to kick off the New London Sail
Festival!
