Schooners Adventure and Ernestina Joint
Member Sail Family and
friends joined us today for an afternoon sail in
Boston Harbor. We always enjoy working together
with the Schooner Adventure. Please visit the
Adventure at Harbor Loop in Gloucester, Mass, (or
in the virtual world at www.schooner-adventure.org )
About half of the 60
participants are members of the Schooner
Ernestina and half are members of Schooner
Adventure, and a handful are members of both
organizations.
We set the four lowers for
relaxing sail around the Boston Harbor Islands
while guests mingled and enjoyed conversation.
Adventure members were invited to tour the holds
of the Ernestina to compare the structure and
designs of the two Essex built schooners.
Combining interests to support and promote the
preservation efforts of these historic beauties
brings us all further towards our goals.
We all look forward to the day
we will see the two sailing together.

Stars in the Spars
As the sun set Schooner Ernestina became the
authentic backdrop for the viewing of the Spencer
Tracy movie "Captains Courageous" to a
viewing audience of 65 or so. This is a new
experiment in pulling people to the waterfront to
connect with our maritime heritage. Two images
are shown to the lower right taken from the
earlier frames of the film. There is incredible
footage of Gloucester Schooners on the Banks as
the film progresses. Ernestina could have been
one of the rivals of the Schooner We're Here....
