SEA Connections Summer Content Institute for Science Teachers
Underway Day 2

After weighing anchor in Aucoot Cove, we made a quick run over to Sippican Harbor for a logistical run into the Tabor Academy dock in Marion and then ran out of the harbor for the first of two trawls on the day.

After pulling up such interesting animals as another Oyster Toad Fish, Squid and Squid Egg Cases along with some Sargassum transported into the area by the Gulf Stream, we continued on toward Nasketucket Bay on the Fairhaven/Mattapoisett line.

The second trawl of the day pulled in a large Summer Flounder, Scup and Butterfish. The Flounder had eaten a Mantis Shrimp which we regularly catch in this area.

Most of the afternoon was taken up by a shore party using all three of Ernestina's onboard dories and the rescue boat for exploration and a beach seine in North Cove at the north end of West Island.

During the night a very weak 'cold' front went through driving out some of the humidity and increasing the visibility.
