Yard Work at D.N. Kelley & Son Shipyard, Fairhaven, MA
Late April through June 2004

June 10th through 12th
Extensive work continues at Kelley's Yard with planking stripped away to be able to inspect and replace futtocks. Futtocks are bolted together to make up the frames (ribs).

Tony Marques and crew remove old futtocks marked for replacement

Futtocks going in on the opposite side of the ship from the photo above.

A template is readied for fabrication of another futtock.

New futtocks under the fish hold one the starboard side.

You can compare this photo and the one to the left and see that two futtocks were added during the intervening day.

The bilge pump suction line in the fish hold is run in a more efficient way and the bilge alarm sender unit is readied for installation.

The septic tank is ready to be moved to gain access to fasten some new futtocks under the forward end of the fish hold. A post supporting a deck beam was removed with the mortise shown below in the top of the keelson. The tenon of the old post is laying on top of the floor timber.
