Yard Work at D.N. Kelley & Son Shipyard, Fairhaven, MA
Late April through mid-July 2004

June 20th through July 4th
Extensive work continues at Kelley's Yard as crew move general maintenance along as well..

The new alongside the sound older futtocks. You can see the counterbores where through bolts are run through frames and floor timbers to tighten Ernestina. New and additional keel bolts are also installed.

Tony Marques saws a plank.

Tasha paints the recently rebuilt engine room scuttle.

Frames are ready for planking on the port side.

Willi Bank fits lead ballast back into the bilge in the fish hold. It will be capped with cement once again.

A cement mixer is used to prepare concrete that is poured from the outside to fill the voids between frames, keel and keelson. This will promote bilge water flow alongside the keelson and allow us to keep the bilges cleaner and free of debris.

Willi Bank and Paul Anthony pour in the concrete. It took three 80 pound bags per frame.

Concrete is transferred from mixer to pail.

Anne Brengle from the Whaling Museum presents the ECHO banner on behalf of the Museum and the New Bedford Oceanarium to be flown during the many upcoming programs. It looks like two more weeks in the yard.
