Captain Robert Abram Bartlett died on April 28, 1946. The Morrissey was sold to Melvin Hoffman Jackson, a USCG Master Mariner and his brother, Sidney Richmond Jackson who established the Coastal Carrier Corporation of New York City. See article below.... The brothers purchased the vessel to carry mail and passengers in an inter-island trade in the South Pacific. After a thorough inspection and outfitting, they set sail in late 1946 bound south enroute to Tahiti when the transom began to take on water. After repairs in Bermuda, they continued on for Port-au-Prince, Haiti in the West Indies. Unfortunately, the Morrissey turned out to be not seaworthy enough for such a trip and the hard decision was made to return to New York City. |
