The Ernestina set sail this morning with the 7th grade class from the Thomas Prince school in Princeton, Mass.  This was our second group with Thomas Prince as we had the 8th grade class yesterday. Skies were sunny today with a great breeze to sail.

Students learned to set sails and how to be alert on bow watch while others steered at the helm. The plankton station brought up some interesting creatures in their plankton tow and several groups had a great time making up their own sea shanties. Still others tied sailors knots and learned about water quality and tools used by 19th century crews.

W e returned to the dock for a working on water program in the afternoon with students from Milton School in Vermont. Everyone learned to navigate and fish from a dory. Students got to see what it was like to be fisherman, Captain and Cook over a hundred years ago.

Program Coordinators: Rhonda Moniz
Captain: Willi Bank

If this was The Grand Banks, we'd be fishing now!

Global connections ~ over the waters that connect us.

Send over the dories! All hands to the boat falls!

Block and tackles make for lighter work.

We would like to thank Lotus and IBM for donation of software, hardware and funding to enable regular electronic updates from the ship.
