After breakfast and
chores, the Ernestina crew spent the morning catching
up on maintenance projects around the ship. The UMASS
Boston crew spent two hours planning our transit to Boston,
taking into account tides, currents, weather and our time of
arrival.
After lunch on board the UMASS Boston crew
took time to visit the New Bedford Whaling Museum, look
around the historic area of New Bedford and tour a US Coast
Guard vessel.
At 1600 everyone met back at the ship to
prepare for our transit to Boston. We left the dock at
1700 with winds force 3 out of the northeast and clear skies.
After dinner underway, we dropped anchor at 2030 in Wild
Harbor just southeast of the south entrance to the Cap Cod
Canal. After the ship was all secure, everyone enjoyed
spending some quiet time on deck on our first night away from
the dock enjoying the company of their crew mates and
a beautiful sunset. During a surprise visit, ex-Ernestina crewmembers Steve Kirk and Katie
Krause visited us in their catboat. There were also a
few people on a power boat who said that they would be sailing
on the ship out of Woods Hole with us on July 6th.
We plan to catch the fair current
through the canal tomorrow morning and we will be on our way
to Boston. Program Coordinators:
