Finally.... The rain
stops long enough for us to have a pleasant dockside visit by
the Harbor View Children's Center and then a wonderful member sail in
Boston Harbor. Thanks to David McGowan from the MA Department
of Environmental Management, a group of several dozen
pre-school kids had a chance to come aboard for a visit at
Boston Fan Pier. It is always exciting to bring such an
enthusiastic group aboard...
As you can see from the chart image to the
right, we didn't go far out into the harbor during our member
sail from 5-8pm, only reaching
President Roads before turning back for the dock, but what a
great group of people aboard and a nice gentle evening breeze
to carry us along.. Boston Harbor was
busy this evening with jets coming and going to Logan Airport.
Aren't those pilots concerned about clipping the topmasts?
They must look closer than they are. Toward the end of the
sail we observed a large, no..., huge LNG tanker departing the
harbor with incredibly tight security both on the water and
ashore. We came back to the dock at
Fan Pier to find our compatriot, the Spirit of
Massachusetts, alongside and we rafted together, a schooner
gam in the making in Boston Harbor. Yes, schooner gams
happen yet today in this modern age. Fortunately!
