We called all hands up
at 0555 to haul back the anchor and set sail. The wind was
absent in the sunny haze, so we motored on towards Stellwagen
Bank with calm seas all the way. Jet contrails overhead cast a
dramatic shadow on the haze that some crew described as a
waterspout........we sailed a bit, and motored on towards
Provincetown. The wind is light and variable, but for a while
this morning we had a fair breeze and set all sails currently
onboard. The Jib Topsail added almost a full knot. We set the
Main Topsail for the first this year, and then the little
breeze we had evaporated.
We crossed Stellwagen Bank looking for
Whales and Sharks and trolling some gear in hopes of catching
a Bluefish. All we got was a few pleasure boats that wanted a
closer look or just wanted to cut across our fishing gear.
Lost 2 good lures.
Rhonda went out in the little boat and took
some nice photos of the sails over calm seas. Students were in
stations, and standing watch.
We escaped the worst of the heat by staying
well offshore away from malls and traffic! Swim call at anchor
just outside of P-town harbor.
We plan to transit the canal Friday morning
and return to New Bedford at 1600.
All is well Program
