At 1400, 19
participants from the second of four Sound School groups
boarded the Ernestina. While
underway students participated in stations on simple machines
and boat parts and names.
Today we sailed in the light
breeze for the afternoon and came to anchor after dinner. Our
anchoring spot is four or five miles from Long Wharf where we
departed from at the very entrance to New Haven Harbor.
Evening program was spent discussing resource conservation
onboard Ernestina, and looking at their system as
microcosm of the larger world.
At 2100
anchor watch began with one crew and 2 participants
safeguarding the boat for an hour at a time, while others
slept. Low cloud
cover offered the opportunity for some great stargazing.

Harbor breakwater. The main channel into the port is shown
where the track comes in from off the chart image.
The lavender track shows the
ship returning from anchor on Wednesday morning.
