ISACS ~ Independent Schools Association of the Central States
Four-day Institute

Final Day: August 18, 2003

This morning we ferried the faculty members aboard early and began hauling back the anchor at 0600 with only B watch awake.  Students worked the windlass, and in no time the anchor was aboard and made fast, and we were headed back into Boston.

Once morning chores were completed, students faced the challenge of climbing aloft along the both the main and fore shrouds.  Throughout the morning student did fancy rope work, making necklaces and bracelets to give as gifts to one another in the closing ceremony.

We were at the dock by eleven, and after a delicious meal of pizza, students spent the afternoon with journals and being interviewed by John Braman.  By 1445 we were able to come back together, students presented their gifts to one another and we closed with certificates, thank yous.

What will you get out of this trip that will be with you in 5 years?

·         Peace, love, and happiness, DUDE!

·         Straddling the bowsprit and almost falling off.

·         Being on a schooner and being actively involved in it’s operation

·         Whoa! I sailed a 109 year old schooner! Righteous!

·         Just sailing the boat, and the different challenges like going on the bowsprit and using the head for the first time.

·         That me and Nii are sexy! Meeting 19 other happy knowledgeable, beautiful students and living through our 2 o’clock watch!

·         Being on the schooner and raising the sails.  Plus all the great people we met and becoming so close so quick.

·         The friendships that we have made will continue with us over course of the five years or longer.  Also the bowsprit and the knowledge it takes to steer and manage a schooner like the Ernestina.
