The
track on the chart image above shows the path of our two day
run from New Bedford to Norwalk, CT. We stopped midway at the
65 mile mark to anchor off West Harbor, Fishers Island on the
first evening just in time for dinner to wait out the foul
tide. We got underway again at 0130 early the 5th to continue
on with an extra 2.5 knot boost on account of the current!
By
noontime we were off Greens Ledge at the entrance to Norwalk,
CT where we tacked back and forth several times to give the
Harbormaster and photographers time to come out for some great
photos and to escort us in the narrow channel.
The
channel in to Norwalk is fairly long and there are places
where Ernestina pushed along with the keel just touching the
channel bottom. We kept moving up the channel fine, however,
until we swung around to come alongside the dock. There we
couldn't work sideways against the shallows and simply waited
for the tide to continue coming in (there is a 7' range).
You
can see from the photos below that we got some pushboat
assistance from the Schooner Quinnipiak who were also there
along with the Phoenix, both New Haven boats.
Great
transit! We had a great group of crew and members aboard!
