This is
the first of three days sailing with the Anrews
Middle School thanks to the efforts of Kate
Jesdale, a SEA Connections Summer Institute
teacher from 2001. Some large Sea Star, yes?

"On
June 12, 2002, other classmates and I went on the
Schooner Ernestina as a fieldtrip. While we
were there, I had a lot of fun from raising the
sails to just talking with the crewmembers on the
boat or talking with friends. The crew helped
make the trip even more interesting and fun
because they taught us things about the ship and
how to use things on it and we did different fun
activities. After a while of sailing, we stopped
for 1/2 hour to have a lunch break and about 5 of
those minutes were used to stop talking and
listen to the sounds outside all around us.
After lunch, we got to go to more activities,
these activities included driving the ship,
looking for where we were in the Boston Harbor on
a map of water called a chart, and looking at
some life that lives in the Harbor. All in all,
this was a wonderful trip thanks to the whole
crew, chaperones, and teachers, and if we were
ever to go on a trip like this again, I would go
without a doubt or hesitation."

"It
was very exciting and I would love to go
again. I felt like I was in the
1800s. We got to hoist the sails.
Also I learned how to sail a ship and learned
about the history."

"The
boat ride on the Ernestina was a great
experience. I learned how they control the
boat and they survived the brutal weather.
It was fun being able to pull up the sails while
saying 2,6, HEAVE. It was a great
experience."

"This
trip was really fun but we had to bundle
up!"
