All weekend the crew worked to ready the ship for the transit back to New Bedford by dismantling and clearing the bilge pumping system, checking auxiliary pumps and making other arrangements. The ongoing cleanup and restowage of the Ernestina continues.

There have been several meetings with the US Coast Guard to get a handle on what happened and the best way to proceed.

By the way, many of those who follow these ships might recognize the rig in the background of the image to the right. The TallShip Bounty came in to Greenport while we lay alongside. They have done an impressive job rebuilding the hull below waterline and installed a diesel electric twin-screw main engine below. What a piece of machinery! They have a great shower aboard that they generously offered to the Ernestina crew!

Captains: Sophie Morse and Willi Bank

Capt. Willi Bank and engineer Missy DeValles check one of the auxiliary pumps brought to Greenport via the New London ferry to be carried on deck during the transit back. This one will pull lots of water but hopefully we won't need to use it.

The crew have been working some long hours.... There are twelve crew aboard Ernestina.

We would like to thank Lotus and IBM for donation of software, hardware and funding to enable regular electronic updates from the ship.
