Ernestina at DN Kelley Shipyard in Fairhaven, MA

Shown below is the plan for keel bolts and drifts in two separate images (forward and aft).

Schooner Ernestina is hauled out at Kelley's.

We continue putting drifts into floor timbers and up through the false keel to tie the backbone of Ernestina together. We also run in lag bolts from outside the hull to tie floor timber ends into the frames.

Captains: Sophie Morse

Schooner Ernestina on the ways at Kelley Shipyard.

Jessica Bryant ripping some stock for partitions as we reinstall the ballast into the main hold.

Drifts are 3/4" galvanized rod driven into 11/16" holes for a tight fit that ties floor timbers to the keelson.

Franko Calascione drives in a drift in a foc's'le floor timber.

Clench rings at the top of the drifts from a head.

Capt. Sophie Morse runs in some lag bolts through the planks, frames and into the florr timber ends.

Carl Herzog, Reed's Nautical Almanac editor, comes by to help drive some lags.

Lags are tightened down into place.

We would like to thank Lotus and IBM for donation of software, hardware and funding to enable regular electronic updates from the ship.

NOAA Chart is provided courtesy of Maptech using Cruising Navigator 4.3 and grabbing the image using Grabit Pro 6.02.
