Outdoor explorations proved to be a
success once again! After getting off the
dock at Fan Pier in Boston, we set the fores'l
and jumbo needing everyones strength to haul up
the heavy sails. We then
started learning some things about the ERNESTINA
and what has to be done to live safely
onboard. The learning stations included
navigation, history of the ERNESTINA, knot tying,
dory fishing, plankton, lookout, and helm.
After striking sails and having
lunch, some got the opportunity to climb in the
rigging and go out over the water on the
bowsprit.
Congratulations to all those
who tried and succeeded at overcoming fears on
the ship. Outdoor Explorations is a great
trip for the crew and participants. We
arrived back at the Fan Pier to say goodbye to
some old faces and new friends.
You can see the tracks from
today with the red track to Charlestown to load a
wheelchair accessible port-a-john we carry on
deck for this all day sail and then the purple
track out to the Boston Harbor Islands and back.
